With the “MacGyver Ideas Competition 512”, we wanted to break new ground: we were looking for creative application ideas for our redesigned hip and valley clip 512 – hands-on, unconventional, inspiring. Participation was meant to be as easy and accessible as possible: via WhatsApp, with attractive prizes and a clear goal – to spark innovation.
Despite high hopes, the number of submissions fell short of our expectations. Why was that? We’ve got a few theories: maybe the timeframe was too tight. Maybe spring on the construction sites was simply too intense. Maybe the task sounded too technical – or just too specialised for some.
One thing we did learn for sure: creativity needs space – and sometimes a different kind of question.
Because one submission truly stood out: A 16-year-old student named Niilo had the courage to share his idea. Not an established company, not an industry expert – but a fresh impulse with a surprising application scenario: securing flowerpots weighing up to 5,8 kg to the wall – using our 512. His solution is well thought-out, sturdy, and brings a charming DIY character to the table.
For this creative contribution, we are awarding the very first FOS® Young Inventor Award 2025. Niilo will receive a JBL Xtreme 4 Bluetooth speaker – and a big round of applause from the FOS® team.
Our conclusion:
The competition wasn’t a failure – far from it. It was a wake-up call. For us. And for future campaigns. Next time, we want to lower the barriers even more, involve new target groups and embrace diversity. Because our products are capable of so much more – if we create the space for it.
