Wind uplift protection in Poland

PN-EN 1991-1-4 and Polish roofing guidelines

The "Roofing Guidelines" issued by the Polish Roofing Association are based on the "Roofing Rules" of the Central Association of the German Roofing Trade. Additionally, every EU country is required to incorporate and adhere to Eurocode 1 (Actions on Structures, Part 1-4 Wind Loads) in their regulations for roof tile fastening.

Due to climate change and the resulting increase in thunderstorms and storms, reliable storm protection for roofing and façade materials is necessary. According to PN-EN 1991-1-4 and the "Polish Roofing Rules," all sections of pitched roofs in wind zones must be secured with storm clips. Adequate security against the uplift of the roofing must be demonstrated.

Before the introduction of Eurocode 1991-1-4, the strongest storm of the last 10 years was used as the basis. With Eurocode, this period has been extended to 50 years. The peak speed at the building's location, occurring once in 50 years, is assumed. Each country has its own national annex, considering specific conditions such as terrain roughness, topography, and structural stiffness.
